A 55-year-old pastor, Jacob Ojomo who defiled a 15 year-old girl, has been apprehended by the Ondo state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).
Adeyinka Fasiu, the state commandant of the corps, who disclosed this in a statement, said the incident was allegedly carried out at Plaza axis of Oke Ijebu road, in Akure the state capital.
Ojomo was allegedly caught in the act by the girl’s mother, who raised an alarm to the corps detectives, who had been trailing the suspect following his suspicious relationship with the victim.
Fasiu said both confessional statements of the suspect, and medical test from the hospital confirmed that there was penetration inferring the victim was raped.
The corp commander concluded that the rapist would be charged to court following the conclusion of preliminary investigations.
Reacting to the wave of rape and child molestation cases in Nigeria, Aisha Buhari recently called for the enforcement of rape laws at all levels to protect women and children in the country.
Aisha made this call at a meeting with staff of the Ministry of Women Affairs, UNICEF and National Population Commission, led by the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr Ezekiel Oyemomi at the state house in Abuja.
At the meeting held on Monday, September 14, the wife of the president, advocated that the national law on rape (Prohibition Act 2015) which was passed on Monday, May 25, be enforced.
The prohibition act stipulates imprisonment ranging from 12 to 20 years for persons convicted of rape and child molestation.
